Description of solution
As there is no longer a natural flood dynamic on the Lech due to strong human influence, there is no longer a dynamic on the Lechleiten either. Slides are not occurring, the sites "age" and change from "location for specialists" to "home for generalists". Spruce for example has spread rapidly on the Lechleiten slopes in recent decades. The problem here is that due to the emerging competition, species that are valuable from a nature conservation point of view, such as yellow lady's slipper, swamp gladiolus, gravel saxifrage and many more, cannot withstand this pressure and are becoming locally extinct. The abandonment of rural (forest) pasture use further worsened the situation. With a model project the association Lebensraum Lechtal an der Litzauer Schleife wants to show how the habitat change and thus the loss of biodiversity can be stopped. Through suitable landscape management measures such as mowing, bush clearance or grazing, the current population of species such as marsh gladiolus, yellow lady's slipper and gravel saxifrage is to be promoted and their further (re)expansion made possible. The measure is part of the project Alpenfluss Landschaften.
